Full fields set for Australian Junior

QUEENSLAND, Australia (April 10, 2012) -- Full fields will contest this year’s Australian Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Championships, to be played in Queensland from 11-13 April.
The Australian Girls’ Amateur will be played at Carbrook Golf Club, 30 minutes south of Brisbane. The 5,498 metre lengthened layout , which has been making worldwide headlines with the resident bull sharks in its lake, will test the field over the 72-holes.
2011 Champion, Cathleen Santoso (NSW) will return to defend, while 2010 Champion Annie Choi will also be aiming for her second title. Su Oh, who was the youngest player to ever contest the Women’s Australian Open at the age of 12 years, will fly the flag for Victoria, while recent Trans Tasman Team Members, Lauren Mason and Hannah Green will carry the hopes of Queensland and Western Australia respectively. Four players from New Zealand will also visit our shores, led by Julianne Alvarez.
The Australian Boys’ Amateur will be played at Bribie Island Golf Club, the site of various PGA Tour Events. The event is wide open this year with last year’s winner and runner up having moved to the senior ranks.
National Squad Member Oliver Goss from WA will be a favourite following his recent victory in the WA Amateur, while the winner of the 2011 Australian Boys’ Ranking System, Ricky Kato (NSW) will be looking for his first national title. The youngest ever winner of the event, SA’s Anthony Murdaca, at the age of 14 years in 2010, will be hoping to have his name on the trophy for a second time, while New Zealand Trans Tasman Team Members Compton Pikari, Tyler Hodge, and Ryan Chisnall will be hoping to take the trophy over the Tasman.
With both champions gaining an exemption into the respective Australian Opens, the events are sure to bring out the best in Australia’s junior golfers.
Following the conclusion of the Junior Amateurs, state teams will remain in Queensland for the Interstate Teams Matches. The Girls’ will remain at Carbrook Golf Club and play for the Burtta Cheney Cup, while the Boys’ will head to Pacific Harbour Golf Club on Bribie Island for their Teams Matches. The Ross Watson designed layout is sure to test the players, having been voted Queensland’s Best Public Access Golf Course.

ABOUT THE Australian Junior Amateur
The Australian Junior Amateur Championship is open to
players aged under 18 years on the first day of play.
The initial field size is 156 players (105 boys and 51
girls), and it is contested over 72-holes stroke play
(with a cut after 54-holes).
