Entries available for all 3 USGA Opens

FAR HILLS, N.J. (March 5, 2012) – The 2012 USGA championship season officially commences today with the opening of the online application process for the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open championships.

The U.S. Open, which will be conducted June 14-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., is open to any professional or amateur with an up-to-date men’s Handicap Index® under the USGA Handicap System™ not exceeding 1.4. Entries for the U.S. Open close at 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, April 25.

Local qualifying will be held at 109 sites between April 30 and May 17, followed by sectional qualifying at two international sites (Shizuoka, Japan and Surrey, England) on May 21 and May 28, respectively, and 11 U.S. sites on June 4.

Last year, the USGA accepted 8,300 entries for the U.S. Open. The record for entries is 9,086 in 2009.

The U.S. Women’s Open will be held at Blackwolf Run® in Kohler, Wis., July 5-8. The championship is open to any female professional or amateur with an up-to-date Handicap Index under the USGA Handicap System not exceeding 4.4. Women’s Open entries close at 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 2. Sectional qualifying will be held at 19 U.S. sites between May 14 and June 3.

In 2011, the USGA accepted 1,295 entries for the Women’s Open, one fewer than the record established the previous year.

The U.S. Senior Open, open to any professional or amateur with an up-to-date men’s Handicap Index under the USGA Handicap System not exceeding 3.4, will be played at Indianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich., July 12-15. Eligible players must be 50 years of age by the start of the championship. U.S. Senior Open entries close at 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 23. Sectional qualifying will be held at 34 U.S. sites between June 14 and June 28.

A total of 2,525 entries were accepted for the Senior Open in 2011. The record for entries is 3,101 in 2002.

Entries for the 10 USGA amateur championships will open in the coming weeks.
