LEAGUE CITY, Texas (Feb. 26, 2012) -- Sunny skies and warmer weather greeted the field for the final round of the 2012 South Four-Ball Championship at Magnolia Creek in League City. Co-leaders John Dowdall and Kip Guidry maintained their top position throughout the round and claimed the first regional championship of the season. James Bartell and Douglas Jones made their way up the leaderboard to finish second.

Playing in the final pairing alongside Sugar Land’s Trent Booher and Critt Walton, Dowdall, of Houston, and Missouri City’s Kip Guidry opened the front side with a bogey on the par four 2nd hole. A birdie by Guidry on the par five 4th hole brought them back to even par for their final round. Dowdall continued his birdie run with two birdies on the 6th and 9th holes.

The momentum continued for the duo on the back side with Guidry running in a birdie on the 10th hole, only for his partner Dowdall to record his third birdie on the 11th hole. Another birdie by Dowdall on the par four 15th hole brought his total to four for the final round. Guidry increased his total for the final round with his last birdie coming on the par five 16th hole.

Dowdall/Guidry were able to hold off a hard charging James Bartell and Douglas Jones, both of Houston, with impressive rounds of 65-66—131 for 13-under par.

Sitting three strokes back at the start of the final round, Bartell/Jones used a bogey-free round to make their move up the leaderboard. After making four birdies on their front side, the Houston duo finished with three straight birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes. A par on the finishing hole allowed for Bartell/Jones to sit as the clubhouse leaders before finishing two strokes back of Dowdall/Guidry. A two-day total of 11-under par (68-65—133) was enough to hold off three teams at 10-under par 134.
