Two teams tied for lead at Texas South Four-Ball
LEAGUE CITY, Texas (Feb 25, 2012) -- An overnight
cool front welcomed the field for the first round of the
Texas Golf Association’s South Four-Ball Championship
at League City’s Magnolia Creek Golf Links. The
typical windy conditions on the par-72 links-style
course were absent today as 12 teams shot 3-under
par or better. The teams of Booher/Walton and
Dowdall/Guidry sit tied atop the leaderboard at 7-
under par 65.
Sugar Land’s Trent Booher and Critt Walton, who
began the day on the back side, were able to make
the turn at 3-under par. The momentum continued as
Walton birdied the first three holes on their back side.
A bogey on the par three 6th hole was their only
blemish. Booher ended the round with an eagle on
the par five 9th hole to help his team climb the
leaderboard at 7-under par 65.
John Dowdall, of Houston, and Missouri City’s Kip
Guidry joined Booher/Walton at 7-under par 65 with a
blistering six birdies from Dowdall on the opening
front nine. Dowdall ran his seventh birdie of the day
in on the par five 16th hole to help his team post a
bogey-free round.
The teams of Broc Haymon (Montgomery)/Dale
Loewen (Houston) and Chris Forbes (Katy)/Charles
Williams (Houston) sit one shot back at 6-under par
66. Defending champions Trevor Hyde/David Pocknall
of Kerrville and Katy, respectively, sit three strokes
back at 4-under par 68.
