Florida Winter Series: Rob Bryans wins at Madison Green

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 7, 2012) -- Rob Bryans captured the Winter Series event run by the Florida State Golf Association at Madison Green Golf Club in Royal Palm Beach, February 6-7. He was joined in the winner’s circle by Robert Casamento and James Byer, who won the Senior and Super Senior divisions respectively.

Rob Bryans, of Miami Beach, went wire-to-wire to win the 40-54 Division. Bryans carded a first round three-over par 75 to hold a one stroke lead heading into the final round. Bryans posted a final round of one-over par 73, for a tournament total of 148 and a four stroke victory. Nick Fernandez, of Pembroke Pines, finished in second place after rounds of 77-75 for a tournament total of 152. John Vaccaro, of Sarasota, finished alone in third place with a tournament total of 154.

In the Senior Division, Robert Casamento, of Davenport, posted a tournament total of four-under par 140, to win by three strokes. In the first round Casamento carded a three-under par round of 69, and finished strong in a final round of one-under par 71 to win the title. Bill O’Keefe, of Lake Worth, finished alone in second place after rounds of 76-67, for a tournament total of one-under par 143. O’Keefe’s final round of five-under par 67 was the low round of the tournament. Gordon Blakeley, of Lutz, finished in third place after rounds of 73-77.

In the Super Senior Division, James Byer, of Latana, came from behind to win by three strokes with a tournament total of 147. Byer, a past Super Senior Champion carded a first round three-over par 75, to trail by one stroke heading into the final round. In the final round, Byer posted an even par round of 72 to capture the title. Bill Dorece, of Pompano Beach, finished alone in second place after rounds of 75-75. John Baldwin, of West Palm Beach, and Jeffrey True, of Naples, finished tied for third place with a tournament total of 151.

The Winter Series events include seven competitions, six individual events and one four-ball event. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
