PAUMA, CA, (Sept. 27, 2005) -- Scott Monroe of Julian ended the final round the same way he began it, with a three-shot margin, and won the 28th Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Senior Amateur Championship by holding off Steve Hakes of San Diego.

Robert Carver of Fullerton shot his second consecutive even-par 71 today (on a shorter layout) and cruised to a seven-shot victory over Peter Daley of Newport Beach in the Super Seniors competition, becoming the first player in that event's six-year history to successfully defend his title.

The 57-year-old Monroe, a restaurant owner, struggled to a 5-over-par 76 today but captured the biggest tournament of his career. However, when paired with his opening round of 68 yesterday (the only tournament's only subpar round), Monroe's 144 total was good enough to fend off Hakes, who shot 74 today for a 147 total.

A quartet of golfers -- including Bakersfield's Dave Nicholas, whose even-par 71 was the best round today -- tied for third at 149. Another four, including defending champion Steve Bogan of Placentia, tied for seventh at 151.

Former three-time champion John Olive, who began the day in second place, imploded with a 45 on the back nine, shot 82 and finished tied for 12th.
