A.J. Crouch wins St. Augustine Amateur

ELKTON, FL- (October 16, 2011) – 17-year-old AJ Crouch won the 2011 St. Augustine Amateur by winning a four hole playoff. Crouch who shot a final round 68, matched both Spencer Cole who shot the day’s low round at 66, and Jim Liu who shot a two over par 72 all equaling 2 under par 208.

Crouch and Cole both birdied the par 5 ninth hole in the first playoff hole, knocking Liu out of the playoff. Cole and Crouch continued to match each other the next two playoff holes before Crouch hit a 3 wood to about 40 feet for a two putt bridie and the win on the 4th playoff hole of the day.

Crouch and Liu battled most of the day however Liu was leading Crouch and Cole by one going into the 17th hole. Crouch who struggled Day 1 and 2 finishing 17 and 18 at 5 over par for the two days, finished the two holes at even par, while Liu bogeyed 17 to force the playoff.

Marcus Plunkett and Cyril Suk finished tied for 4th at a 1 over par 211. Keagan Cummings and Motin Yeung finished tied for 6th at 3 over par 213.

Duke Butler IV, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, won his 3rd consecutive Mid-Am Championship with a 6 over par 216. Beating Ben Perdue, Chipley, FL, and James Fitzpatrick, Clearwater, FL, by one stroke at 217.

ABOUT THE St. Augustine Amateur

54 hole stroke play event for better amateurs and collegiate players. The field will be limited to 84 players, with no cut. The tournament is open to Amateurs only whose entry has been accepted by the Tournament Committee however there is an open qualifier several weeks prior to the event - contact the Tournament Committee or visit the website for details.

Unless prior arrangements are made with the approval of the Committee, competitors must walk during the competition.
