Texas Mid-Am: McCaffrey leads heading to third round
THE WOODLANDS, Texas (Oct. 1, 2011) -- It was another breezy and comfortably cool day at the second round of the Texas Mid-Amateur Championship presented by Breitling which is being held at The Club at Carlton Woods. Players looked to better their first round scores in hopes of falling within the low fifty-four and ties that would advance into tomorrow’s final round. Spectacular course conditions paired with lightning fast greens set the stage for players to make a run on moving day.

One player finds himself under par through two rounds of the championship. South Mid-Amateur champion, Mike McCaffrey, posted a round of two under par, 70, giving him a two day total of 143. McCaffrey opened up with a birdie on his first hole of the day before making bogeys on holes #6 and #7. Making the turn to the back nine, McCaffrey birdied #10, #14, and carded an eagle, three, on the par five eighteenth. Three players find themselves just one shot back of McCaffrey heading into tomorrow’s final round. Clarke Kincaid and Andrew Lawson both matched the low round of the day by carding rounds of two under par, 70. Also sitting in a tie for second is Round one co-leader Beau Davis. Davis, 2011 West Texas Amateur Champion, followed his opening round 71 with a one over par round of 73. South Mid-Amateur Champion, Aaron Hickman, sits just two shots back of the leader after posting a one under par round, 71.

A total of sixty players have advanced to tomorrow’s final round at Carlton Woods. Starting times are set to begin at 8:00AM with the leaders scheduled to tee off at 9:30AM.
