Washington Metro. Senior: Thomas victorious

LORTON, Va. (Sept. 28, 2011) -- Senior newcomer Richard "Dickie" Thomas of Washington Golf & Country Club recorded an even-par 71 in the second round of the 69th Metropolitan Senior at Laurel Hill Golf Club to claim the winner's prize.
Thomas (72-71--143) passed first round leader Stan Williams (70-74--144) and withstood a challenge from former Metro Mid-Am champion Tim Vigotsky (76-69--145) and defending champion Jack Vardaman (76-70--176).
Vigotsky's 69 was the low round of the championship. George Mavrikes (72-76--148) and Dick Blackburn (76-72--148) tied for fifth place, while Barry Flaer (74-75), John Hoffman (75-74) and John Caulfield (74-75) were knotted in seventh at 149.
