Pacific Northwest Women's Senior Team: Burkey, McKay lead

BREMARTON, Wash. (Sept. 21, 2011) -- Three-time defending champions, Ginny Burkey of Fircrest, Wash. and Loree McKay of Portland, Ore. are in the lead once again through 36 holes at the 29th Annual Pacific Northwest Women’s Senior Team Championship conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. Burkey and McKay followed up their first round best-ball score of 2-under par 70 with a solid 5-over par 77 in the more difficult chapman format of the 2nd round. Their overall score of 3-over par 147 gives them a 2-shot lead over Phyllis Laschuk of Vancouver, B.C. and Kathryn McGarvey of North Vancouver, B.C. heading into tomorrow’s final round. Laschuk and McGarvey had the low round of the day carding a 3-over 75 to get within striking distance of Burkey and McKay. Should Burkey and McKay prevail tomorrow they will become the first four-time winners in the 29 year history of the Pacific Northwest Women’s Senior Team Championship. The final round will be played in four-ball stroke play format on the Cascade Course with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.

ABOUT THE PNGA Women's Senior Team

54-hole Stroke Play Competition (Gross and Net). Play will be contested over two different golf courses using a different format on each day (Four-Ball, Chapman, and Four-Ball), Two-person teams with the field separated into two equal flights based on team handicap.
