Greater Houston Junior: Hebert wins
HUMBLE, Texas (Sept. 12, 2011) -- Cody Hebert (72-75=147) held off Benjamin Arnett (76-73=149), Barrett Hennington (73-76=149) and Patrick Bailey (74-75=149) to take home the Greater Houston City Junior Championship, Boys Division. On the Girls' side, it was Kayli Quinton (79-72=151) winning her third consecutive City Junior title.
The Championship was conducted at Redstone Golf Club - Tournament Course Saturday, September 10 - Sunday, September 11. The Boys Division played from 6,969 yards - Par 72 and the Girls Division played from 5,811 yards - Par 72.
Two were tied at the top after Round 1 in the Boys Division as Hebert and Mario Carmona each carded even par 72. The two remained in a dead heat through the front nine Sunday, but it was Hebert who ultimately pulled away on the back to win his first City Junior Championship.
Quinton found herself looking up at Coutrney Zietsman and Taylor Stockton after 18 holes and after bogeys on three of her opening five holes, things looked bleak for the two-time defending champion. However, Quinto got two shots back before the turn then fired a one-under 35 on the inward nine to claim her third consecutive City Junior Championship.
The top five Boys and Girls from this year's championship earn an exemption into next year's City Junior barring they don't reach their 19th birthday on or before the final round of next year's championship. Hebert and Quinton also earned an AJGA exemption for thier performance.
