Mississippi Senior: Taylor wins it, completing the career slam
JACKSON, Miss. (Aug. 21, 2011) --Mike Taylor of Jackson found himself in a familiar place when finishing play today at the 2011 Senior Amateur, atop the leaderboard. Taylor was able to shoot a 2-under-par 70, which was good enough to force a playoff with second round leader John Lang.
On the first playoff hole, Lang faced a 10 foot par putt to extend the match after Taylor reached the green safely in 2 shots and then two putted. Lang was unable to convert his 10 footer for par, making Taylor the 2011 Senior Amateur Champion. The title gives Mike Taylor the career MGA sweep by having a State Amateur, State Mid-Amateur, and State Senior Amateur Title.
Barely missing out on the playoff was Robert Pannell of Greenwood who put together a great round of 68. He bogeyed the 18th to put him in 3rd place, missing the playoff by one shot.
The champion in the Super Senior Division was Ron Aldy of Goodman who put together another solid round today. His 73 was good enough to put him 3 shots clear of fellow competitors George Hinman and Mike Pharr.
More golf was also needed to determine our Grand Master Champion as well. Bill Bartlett was able to make up 2 shots on 2nd round Leader Larry Wagster today to force a playoff at a 3 day total of 225. Wagster was able to outlast Bartlett with a par on the 2nd playoff hole to take the title.
