Dogwood Invitational: First round in the books

SNOW HILL, N.C. (Aug 9, 2011) -- Evelyn Dole of Raleigh, NC and Virginia Lane, NC of Winton share the first round lead in the girls’ division of the Dogwood State Junior Championship. Dole, a rising high school junior, and Lane, a rising high school senior each shot a two over par 74 on the Bob Moore designed course at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, NC. One shot back after a 75 is Catherine Ashworth of Fuquay-Varina, NC.

In the boys’ 16-18 division, Daniel Brantley of Asheboro, NC and Jackson Spires of Fayetteville, NC are tied after round of three under par 69. Colson Hoffman of Indian Trail, NC has a one shot lead in the boys’ 14-15 division following his round of even par 72. Patrick Stephenson of Four Oaks, NC and Austin Harrill of Hickory, NC lead the boys’ 11-13 division after rounds of three under par 69.

This annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

ABOUT THE Dogwood Junior Girls

• 54-hole stroke play tournament
• Field will be reduced to the low half of the field and ties after 36-holes
• All girls compete in one division; there are no age divisions
• Open to girls from North Carolina ages 12-18 who have a USGA Handicap Index of 18.3 or lower
