Duo share lead at Texas North Am
PLANO, Texas (Aug. 5, 2011) -- The first round of the North Amateur Championship got underway Friday morning at the Queen’s Course of Gleneagles Country Club. Extremely hot and calm conditions allowed players to be very aggressive. Thirteen players were able to take advantage and shoot rounds of par or better, but two players stand above the field after day one.

Aaron Hickman had a rough start to his day as he was two-over par after his first three holes. Hickman, the 2010 North Mid-Amateur Champion, then rattled off six birdies in his next thirteen holes to vault up the leader board with a round of 67.

John Antle on the other hand got off to a very quick start with birdies on his opening two holes. Antle of Fort Worth made an eagle, four birdies, and two bogeys on his way to a four under par round of 67 to tie for the lead.

Gleneagles member Danny Lovell sits in a tie for third place after opening with a round of 68. Lovell made four birdies to just one bogey on his way to three under par.

Jack Lempke of Frisco also shot 68 thanks to a great run in the middle of his round. Lempke made three birdies and an eagle in a five hole stretch to move up the leader board. Also firing rounds of par or better were the 2010 North Player of the Year John Bearrie with a 69 and the 2010 State Player of the Year Rob Couture with an even par 71.
