Colorado Women's Match Play: Lee wins
AURORA, Colo. (July 27, 2011) -- Somin Lee of Denver never trailed Wednesday in winning the 36-hole CWGA Match Play final at CommonGround Golf Course.

Lee, the CWGA Junior Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010, defeated 2011 Stroke Play champion Brooke Collins of Louisville 3 and 1 to earn her first open-division CWGA title.

Lee, who will play college golf at Pepperdine beginning in the fall, was 5 up after 10 holes Wednesday, but Collins evened the match after 18 holes and squared things again with a 20-foot birdie on the 30th hole. Lee then won the next two as Collins hit into a deep fairway bunker on the 31st hole and couldn't get up and down for par on the 32nd.

The players halved the next two holes before Collins made bogey on No. 17 and conceded Lee's birdie putt, giving the 19-year-old the victory.

It was the fourth CWGA championship for Lee, who also won the Junior Match Play in 2008 and 2009 and the Junior Stroke Play in 2009.

In the senior division of the CWGA Match Play, Laurie Steenrod of Aurora defeated defending champion Kim Eaton of Greeley in 19 holes to claim the title.

ABOUT THE Colorado Women's Match Play

The CGA Women's Match Play Championship will be played using the PGA TOUR style match play Pod Play system with matches played at scratch, no handicap. Players who register for the championship will be guaranteed at least three (3) matches in the championship at CommonGround Golf Course. After each player is seeded (see below), all players will randomly distributed into their pod with three (3) other players (see pod assignments below) . This will yield eight (8) pods of four (4) players. Each player will play all three other players in their pod (see schedule below). The winner of each pod will advance to the Round of 8 (quaterfinals) and a single elimination knockout round will then commence at Colorado Golf Club. The championship match will be played over 36 holes.

Player Seeding: All 32 players will be ranked 1 – 32, based on their handicap index as of the revision date above, excluding the defending champion who will be seeded #1, if applicable.

Pod Assignments/Seeding: The pods will follow the PGA TOUR style of randomized drawing. Once players have been seeded 1 - 32, players will be drawn at random so that each pod will consist of a player ranked 1 - 8 (Player 1), 9 - 16 (Player 2), 17 - 24 (Player 3) and 25 - 32 (Player 4).

Pod Play Scoring: There will be no extra holes during the pod play portion of matches. Scoring during pod play will be as follows: Match Won – 1 point | Match Tied – ½ point | Match Lost – 0 Points.

Note: If there is a tie for the pod winner, a sudden death playoff will determine the person advancing from that pod.
