Pacific Northwest Mid-Am: Harris Hangs Tough
Bellingham, Washington (September 14, 2005) -- Paul Harris of Vancouver B.C carded a final round even par 72 to finish at 2-under 214 to win the 21st Pacific Northwest Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. It didn’t come easy for Harris. Tom Lewis of Olympia, Wash. made a strong move to the top of the leaderboard this afternoon by carding a final round 3-under par 69 to finish at 1-under par 215 for the championship.

After sixteen holes of play, Harris was tied with Lewis at 1-under par. Harris, a member at Victoria Golf Club, then proceeded to make birdie on the par 5 #17 to take a one shot lead. On the eighteenth hole, Harris missed his drive to end up on the right side of the rough next to a tree leaving him no option but to lay up 75 yards short of the green. Harris then put a wedge shot within 10 feet of the hole to give himself a chance to win. Harris made his 10 foot par putt and was victorious.

This marks the second year in a row that a member from Victoria Golf Club has one the PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Craig Doell was last years champion at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
