KAMLOOPS, BC - Richard Jung, of Toronto, ON, fired a second round 3-under-par 69 to assume the lead at the 109th BC Amateur Championship at The Dunes at Kamloops in Kamloops, BC.
Jung, 18, who received a Presidential Exemption to play in the BC Amateur, carded five birdies and two bogeys to put him at 8-under-par 136 for the tournament.
"It was very windy out there but it worked in my favour because it really helped me to focus," said Jung, the 2010 Canadian Junior Boys' Champion. "Golf is a game of patience so I really try to stay positive out there and wait for it to come to me."
In a two-way tie for second place at 7-under-par 137 is Craig Doell, of Victoria, and round one leader Jeremy Osborne, of Salmon Arm.
"I played a tidy round with no mistakes and made it easy on myself," said Doell, who's 6-under-par 66 was the low round of the day. "After playing The Dunes a couple of times now I'm more comfortable with the golf course and I have a better idea of the lines to take and how the holes are shaped."
In fourth place at 6-under-par 138 is Kevin Carrigan, of Victoria, followed by Cory Renfrew, of Victoria, in fifth at 5-under-par 139.
Following second-round play the Hamber Club Team Championship was awarded to Bryan Scott and Kevin Carrigan of Royal Colwood Golf Club at 7-under-par 281, and the Zone Team Championship was awarded to Kevin Carrigan, Dustin Pewarchuk, Ben Griffin and Brent Wilson of Zone 5 (Southern Vancouver Island) at 12-under-par 420.
The Hamber Club Team Championship and the Zone Team Championship will be held concurrently with the first and second rounds of the BC Amateur. The two person Hamber Club Teams are selected after the first round of play by taking the two players with the lowest gross score from each club with two or more players. The club championship takes both scores from the club team. The four person Zone Teams consist of players who are chosen by each zone prior to the BC Amateur. The zone competition uses the low three of four scores each day.
Shot of the day: Ben Proskiw's hole-in-one on the 7th.
The third round will tee-off beginning at 7:00 a.m. PST on Thursday, July 14, and spectators are admitted free.
