U.S. Senior Open Qualifying: Amateurs faring well

SAN DIEGO, CALIF (June 24, 2011) -- The United States Golf Association has accepted 2,525 entries, including those from 78 players who are already fully exempt into the field, for the 2011 U.S. Senior Open Championship to be played July 28-31 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Entries were received from 49 states (all except North Dakota) and the District of Columbia. In addition to the USA, entries were received from 17 countries: Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Colombia, England, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Paraguay, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, South Africa, Sweden, and Thailand.

****Qualifying Results****

Amateur players are faring well in the sectional qualifying for the 2011 U.S. Senior Open at the historic Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

On June 20, amateur Dave Ryan from Taylorville, Ill. shot 72 and was one of two players to qualify from the Sycamore Hills site in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Joe Viechinicki from Bethlehem, PA was the only amateur of a group of four players that qualified from the Mitchelville, Md location at the Country Club at Woodmor.

Amateur Steve Liebler carded a 71 and was the only qualifer at the Golden Horeshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA

Allan Small qualified with a 69 at the Bonnie Briar Country Club in Larchmont, N.Y.
