Oregon Amateur: Match play underway at Waverly CC
PORTLAND, ORE. (June 22, 2011) -- In the Men's Division of the Oregon Amateur, eight matches went extra holes with the longest being that of Drew Scott of Eugene, Ore. and 1997 Oregon Amateur Champion Scott Hval of Portland, Ore. as it took 22 holes to send Hval home.

The surprise upset among the men came from Taylor Schmidt, the number 54 seed from Boise, Idaho sent Damian Telles, the 11th seed from The Dalles home early on the 19th hole. Telles recently won the OGA Tournament of Champions after a playoff, but this time going extra holes did not go in his favor.

Medalist Nicholas Sherwood of Albany, Ore. easily advanced with a 7 & 6 win over John Pennington Of Eugene, Ore., but defending champion Paul Peterson needed an eagle on the 17th hole to win his match and continue his trek to the title.

Match play continues tomorrow as the Men's field starts the day with their round of 32 with the winners playing again in the afternoon as they, along with the Women's field are set to determine the quarterfinalists
