Women's Southern Amateur: Nielson defeats Roberts

WOODSTOCK, Georgia (June 10, 2011) -- Calle Nielson defeated Meagan Roberts, 4-and-3 in the championship match to win the 96th Women's Golf Association Amateur Championship.
Nielson was the only under par golfer in the Monday qualifier and no one had come close to her since the first match.
In her two matches Thursday, she dispensed Ket Preamchuen from Kennesaw State and then took control early and downed Furman’s Laura Wearn in the afternoon semi-finals.
On the other side of the bracket Roberts, from University of Arkansas, prevailed in two close matches edging out Jordan Britt from University of Tennesee-Chattenooga and then took out University of Alabama golfer, Hannah Collier 2-up in the semi-finals.
In the third place match, Emily Flanigan defeated Virginia Derby Grimes, 2-and-1.
Amira Alexander, Meghan Theiss, Ann Cowan and Marilyn Nolan-Johnson were all flight winners, winning matches Friday.

advancing to a match play tournament. Open and
Mid-Amateur divisions. Entry is open to female
amateur golfers who are members of the WSGA
through a WSGA
member golf club, women’s golf organization, or a
college/university in one of the fifteen southern
states or
the District of Columbia.
