British Columbia Mid-Amateur: Koster extends lead
CAMPBELL RIVER, CANADA (June 8, 2011) -- Defending Champion Greg Koster, of Crown Isle Golf Resort, fired a second round 2-under-par 70 to remain atop the leaderboard at the BC Mid-Amateur Men’s Championship at Storey Creek Golf Club in Campbell River, BC.

Koster, who began today’s round on the 10th tee, had another solid day to sit 5-under-par 139 for the tournament.

“I was off to a good start with a birdie followed by a string of pars and another birdie,” said Koster. “I miss stepped on my 8th hole with a bogey but then on my 9th hole, which was a par 5, I came back with an eagle to stay at 2-under for the front. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to keep the momentum going on the back but I know my game is there and I have a chance tomorrow.”

One of the highlights of the day was Bryan Scott’s round of 7-under-par 65 which vaulted him up the leaderboard into a tie for second place with Cory Renfrew, of Cordova Bay Golf Club, at 3-under-par 141.

“I started the day off with a birdie and basically from there I kicked it into overdrive,” said Scott, a member at Royal Colwood Golf Club. “I struck the ball beautifully all day and made pretty much every putt I looked at. I wish it was always this easy!”

Tied for fourth place at 2-under-par 142 is Brent Wilson, of Gorge Vale Golf Club, and Stephen Watson, of Zone 6.

In the Master-40 division, Watson’s second-round 2-under-par 70 moved him up into first place after first-round leader Paul Hansen struggled today shooting an 8-over-par 80 to drop him to third place. Norm Bradley, of Kelowna Golf & CC, had an up and down day which saw him make five birdies and five bogeys to post a round of even-par 72 to sit in second place at 1-under-par 143.

Following second-round play the White/Haddrell Club Team Championship was awarded to Paul Hansen and Cory Renfrew of Cordova Bay Golf Club who finished with an overall score of 3-over-par 291. In second place was the team of Blair Sabiston and Brent Wilson from Gorge Vale Golf Club at 4-over-par 292 and in third was the Royal Colwood Golf Club team of Jeff Dinn and Bryan Scott at 9–over-par 297.

The two-man club teams were selected after the first-round by taking the two players with the lowest score from each club with two or more competitors.

The final round will once again be played on split tees (Nos. 1 and 10) beginning at 7:30 a.m. PST on Thursday, June 9.
