San Antonio, TX (June 3, 2011) -- Warm temperatures and gusty winds did not slow down the birdie barrage at Brackenridge Park Golf Course, host of the State Public Links Championship. On the first day of match play, aggressive play led to exciting matches and large margins of victory. Players had to battle through two matches in the brutal heat in order to move on to the Quarterfinal round. With the aggressive play came huge upsets, as the top five seeds all failed to make it through the day.

Terrence Miskell continued his dominate play in the morning matches by making short work of his opening match. Miskell defeated Sean Vidal by a 7 and 6 margin to cruise into the Round of 16. Second seeded Andrew Carreon couldn’t find the momentum as he was defeated by the 31st seed Will Aycock in the biggest upset of the day. Trey Rowe followed suit as he dispatched 3rd seeded Jordan Holloway 1up. John Antle, the 4th seed, fell to Kevin Burke 4 and 3. Out of the 16 morning matches, only one match went to extra holes. David Buchheit defeated Eric Adler on the 20th hole to complete the Round of 16.

The afternoon matches saw more of the same, as medalist and top seed Terrence Miskell was defeated by the 17th seeded Matthew Stephens by a margin of 2 up. Twenty fifth seeded John Dukes found himself 1 down headed to the 18th hole, when he chipped in to force extra holes with the 9th seeded Gavin Moreland. After exchanging pars on the first extra hole, Dukes hit his approach on the 210 yard 2nd hole to five feet and drained his birdie to close the match. The upsets continued as Michael Smith defeated the 5th seeded Tyler Gann 1up and Will Aycock defeated the 15th seed Jonathon Allen to reach the Quarterfinals. David Buchheit is the top remaining seed (6th) after defeating Jonathon Alden by a 4 and 3 margin. Players will again face two rounds of match on Saturday. The Quarterfinal Round will begin at 7:30AM followed by the Semi-Finals at 12:00PM.

The State Public Links is scheduled for 18 holes of stroke play qualifying on Thursday, June 2, with the low 32 players advancing to the match play portion of the championship. First and second round matches will be played on Friday. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played Saturday, with the finals on Sunday.
