Georgia Mid-Am: Strickland leads heading into final round
VALDOSTA, Ga. (May 21, 2011) -- Mark Strickland of Woodstock leads all into the final round of the 2011 Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship after going low on Saturday and securing a four-stroke lead and a 6-under-par 138 total. His 4-under-par 68 in the second round included six birdies and a pair of bogeys.

The only other player with a 36-hole score under par is Cason Hammock of Columbus, who matched his day-one total of 1-under-par 71 to bring his overall mark to 2-under-par 142. Earlier this year, Hammock won the Georgia Four-Ball Championship, and looks to capture victory number two in Valdosta. Augusta’s Jeff Knox, who is the only two-time winner of the Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship in the field (2008, ’09), will start Sunday’s final round with an even-par 144 (71-73) total.

The field was cut to the low 70 and ties following Saturday’s second round, with the cutline falling at 14-over-par 158 and 73 players advancing to the final round. Sunday’s action is set to tee off at 8:00 a.m., with the lead group going off at 10:00 a.m. off hole one.
