Richardson Memorial: Saladino stays strong in match play
HEWLETT, NY (May 6, 2011) -- Joseph Saladino continued his stellar play, claiming victory in two matches after finishing atop the leaderboard in the open division of the 2011 Richardson Memorial at the Seawane Club.
Saladino downed Karl Anderson, 4-and-3 and Mike Guli 2-and-1 Friday in the opening round and quarterfinal rounds of match play.
Saladino will take on 12th-seeded Matthew DeMeo, who downed Mark Thompson , 4-and-3 and Mike Reardon, 1-up.
In the other semifinal matchup, 15th-seeded Robert Stelben will continue his Cinderella run against Bryan Pendrick.
Stelben defeated Gary Spector 5-and-4 and Hal Barman 2-and-1 while Pendrick upended Jason Monroe in 19 holes and Dan Goldestein, 2-and-1.Semifinal matches begin at 8:00 and 8:08 a.m., respectively. The finalists will tee off at 12:10 p.m.
In the senior division, Jay Sessa, the first-round leader, beat Tom Yellin in 19 holes and Matt Corrigan, 7-and-6. He'll take on Steve Rose, who defeated Ron Vanelli in 21 holes before beating Doug Vergith 3-and-1.
The championship match in the senior division will begin at noon.
