Richardson Memorial: Saladina, Sessa lead through stroke play
HEWLETT HARBOR, NY (May 5, 2011) -- Joseph Saladino fired a 1-over 72 to take a first-round lead at the 2011 Richardson Invitational Championship at the Seawane Club.

Saladino, who plays out of Huntington Country Club, leads a strong field that includes four players tied for second place.

Gary Spector (The Woodmere Club), Bryan Pendrick (Bethpage State Park), Mike Reardon (The Tuxedo Club) and Mark Thompson (Garden City GC) all fired 4-over 75s to remain in contention.

The cut --- set at 80 --- forced two players on the line to reach Friday's second round due to a match of cards. Robert Stelben (CC of Darien) and Karl Anderson (Stanwich Club) were the final two players to reach the match-play portion of the event.

In the senior division, Jay Sessa of Cherry Valley Club, edged out Steve Rose of Fresh Meadow CC by one shot to claim the top of the leaderboard upon completion of the stroke play portion of the event.

Sess shot 75, one shot better than Rose.

Match play begins Friday and continues through Saturday's championship rounds.
