SPRING, Tex. (May 4, 2011) -- Clear skies and warmer conditions allowed for players to post lower scores during the final round of the 2011 South Senior Amateur Championship. The Gary Player Course of The Woodlands Country Club played host to this year’s championship. At the end of the championship, Michael Allen and Chip Puhl stood atop the leaderboard in the Senior and Super Senior Division respectively.

Playing in the second-to-last group, Austin’s Michael Allen put the pressure on the leaders by posting a 2-under par 70. Allen started the day off strong with birdies on his first, fourth and eighth holes to make the turn at 3-under par 33. His only blemish on the back nine was a bogey on the par four 13th hole to finish with a 33-37 for his 2-under par day. Allen finished the South Senior Championship with a two-day total of 2-over par 146 to claim the Senior Division.

The defending Senior Division Champion, David Pocknall, continued his steady play with a 1-over par 73 for his final round. The Katy product finished alone in second place with a two-day total of 7-over par 149. The Woodlands’ Jamie Held, the leader after round one, finished today with a 77 to claim third place with a 151.

At the end of 36 holes in the Super Senior Division, Mike Schell and Chip Puhl stood tied at 158. With a playoff on the par four 18th hole, San Antonio’s Puhl made par from the hazard to claim victory. Puhl’s consistent play of 39-39 for a 6-over par 78 during the final round, coupled with his opening round 80, put him at the top.

Houston’s own Mike Schell carded the low round of the Super Senior Division with a 1-over par 73 today to sit him next to Puhl at the top after his opening round of 85.
