Virginia tops West Virginia in State Team Matches
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, West Virginia (April 17, 2011) --- After a challenging weekend of unpredictable weather conditions, Team West Virginia has fallen short at the 2011 WV-VA Team Matches, held this weekend at The Greenbrier Sporting Club’s Snead Course. The team, comprised of the top 14 golfers in the state, were defeated by Virginia, 52-32.
After three severe weather delays during yesterday’s foursomes matches, Virginia lead going into the final matches today, 14-7. Today’s matches included four-ball and singles play, where team West Virginia gained 7 ½ points. Winning four-ball matches for team West Virginia include Charleston’s Anthony Reale and Huntington’s Steve Ross, and Super Seniors, Charles Persinger, of Scott Depot, and Morgantown’s Jack Forbes. Senior golfers Scott Bibbee, of Vienna, and Chuck Ingram, of Shepherdstown, tied their match with 1 ½ points. For singles matches, both Reale and Persinger shut out their opponents, 3-0, Ross defeated Virginia’s Ben Keefer, 2-1, and Hurricane’s Harold Payne came out on top, 2 ½- ½.
