Loyd/Dew win Palm Beach County Spring Four Ball
LAKE WORTH, Fla. (April 9, 2011) – Lenny Loyd of
Stuart birdied two straight playoff holes Saturday as
he teamed with Robbie Dew of Palm Beach Gardens
to win the senior division of the inaugural Palm
Beach County Spring Four-Ball golf tournament at
Fountains Country Club.
Loyd and Dew
outlasted David Abell of Jupiter and Pete William of
Juno Beach after they matched scores of 62-64—126
on the North course. Abell followed Loyd’s six footer
with a four footer of his own at the par-5 first hole.
Then at the par-4 second, Loyd was the only player
on the green in regulation, winning with a four-foot
putt.
Coincidentally, it was the second
playoff loss for Abell at the Fountains in 10 days. In
the Senior Classic on the adjacent South course
March 31, the opening event of the Palm Beach
County Golf Association’s 36th season, Abell lost on
the sixth extra hole to Peter Wegmann of Fort
Lauderdale.
In the mid-amateur flight,
Jared Meyers of Jupiter and Scott Wilson of West
Palm Beach made their first round lead hold up,
winning by one stroke with 63-66—129, a shot better
than Ben Adelberg of Boynton Beach and Darryl Osler
of Boca Raton, finished at 67-63—130. This
was the 10th PBCGA victory for Loyd, the second for
Dew, the third for Meyers and the first for Wilson.
There were 16 mid-amateur teams, ages 25-49, and
21 seniors, 50 and older.
“That was the
most fun I’ve had on the golf course in a long time,”
Loyd said, “great companionship, a fine course and
wonderful competition.” They had an eagle, eight
birdies and a bogey Friday, nine birdies Saturday,
including the two in the playoff.
Meyers and
Wilson did not make a bogey in 36 holes. Wilson had
an eagle and two birdies Friday, four birdies
Saturday, Meyers made six birdies over the distance,
and they scrambled to save par at the 18th hole
each day. It’s the first time they had partnered in
competition but had played together many times as
members at Bear Lakes. “We both played solid both
days,” Meyers said.
