Hickman Crushes Field at Texas North Mid-Am
Trophy Club, TX – After two warm and blustery days, players were greeted by cold, calm conditions for the final round of the North Mid-Amateur Championship. The Whitworth Course at Trophy Club Country Club proved to be a stern test over the three days of competition. Although there was a 30 degree drop in temperature from Saturday to Sunday, nothing could stop Aaron Hickman from an impressive victory. Aaron Hickman, of Dallas, simply dominated the competition all week, as he fired the low round of the day for all three rounds. Although Hickman had an overnight lead, he kept attacking during the final round and made sure no one would catch him. There was little doubt who the winner would be after Hickman birdied the first three holes of his final round. Hickman made 7 birdies and just 1 bogey during his 6 under par final round. With rounds of 68-71-66, Hickman cruised to an unbelievable 12 shot victory.
Brandon Scott was the closest pursuer of the lead, but could do no better than 76 on Sunday on his way to second place. Scott, a Trophy Club CC member, used rounds of 69-72-76 to finish at 1 over par for the week. Andy McCabe also fired a final round of 4 over par and took home third place with rounds of 70-75-76. Rob Couture’s bid to win this championship for five consecutive years fell short on Sunday. Couture, of Dallas, fired rounds of 73-74-75 to finish in fourth place.
