Paul and Zach Atkinson Take Texas North Four-Ball
DALLAS, TX (Feb. 28, 2011) -- After players experienced great scoring conditions on Saturday, gusty winds challenged the field during the final round of the North Four-Ball. The Golf Club of Dallas hosted this year’s championship and played like a completely different golf course each day. In the end, conditions didn’t affect Paul and Zach Atkinson as they cruised to a three shot victory.
The father-son Atkinson duo used rounds of 65 and 64 for a total of 11 under par. Zach, the 2004 Texas Amateur champion, eagled the second hole and added three birdies to the team total on Sunday. The team of Marcus Jones and Jeff Dillard made a big charge, but came up a few shots short. Jones and Dillard finished in second place after rounds of 67 and 65 left them at 8 under par. First round leaders Jacob Kline and Scott Maestri fell to a tie for 12th place after a final round of 74. Although playing conditions were much more difficult during the final round, 14 teams managed under par rounds. In all, 16 teams finished with under par totals for the championship.
