PALM BEACH G.A. HONORS PLAYERS-OF-YEAR
Two Palm Beach Gardens golfers, R.J. Nakashian and Tim Cox, were honored Sunday by the Palm Beach County Golf Association as the Player of the Year and the Senior Player of the Year.
Nakashian, 36, won the County Amateur, tied for first in the Tournament of Champions, was the runnerup in the Dodge Four-Ball and lost in the semifinals of the Mid-Amateur. Cox, 52, captured the Senior Amateur, was third in the Senior Better Ball and tied for fifth in the Tournament of Champions.
Others honored at Emerald Dunes were Bill Morton, recipient of the Bobby Bryant Volunteer of the Year Award, and outgoing president Kyle Henderson.
New officers introduced for the 2005 season were Mark Dutler, chairman; John Arrigo, vice chairman; Art Laughlin, treasurer; and George Weston III, secretary.
Sixteen scholarships were awarded by the PBCGA and the Palm Beach County Women's GA. The recipients:
PBCGA: William Anderson, Keri Armpriester, Robert Hodson, Samantha Howell, Griffin Karr, Melissa Lomax, Kodi Merrell, Marie Saintclair, Michelle Steakin, Andrew Stirling, Geoffrey Stirling and Christie Wiederhold.
PBCWGA: Megan Amateis, Katie Bruce, Emily Gerber and Monica Hagin.
In the Diamond Myst Finale Four-Ball which preceded the awards dinner, the father-son team of Gerald and Derren Garber of Boca Raton won gross honors with 65. They were the co-champions a year ago with the same score. Clyde Gibson of Hobe Sound and Michael Orr of Jupiter won a match of cards at 62 for the net title.
There were 40 teams playing three different formats: holes 1-6, scramble; 7-12, modified alternate shots; and 13-18, four-ball stroke play. The prize winners:
