Boe, Taylor victors at Carolinas Young Am
Jackson Taylor wins the men's division
PINEHURST, NC (Jan. 5, 2011) —36 holes were not enough to determine a champion in either the women’s or the men’s division in the Carolinas Young Amateur conducted on the Magnolia course at Pinewild CC in Pinehurst, NC. In the women’s division, Courtney Boe of Bluffton SC shot a final round of even par 72 to finish tied with first round leader Meghan Moore of Bahama, NC at seven over par 151. Boe, a freshman at Coastal Carolina University, then took the title with a par on the first playoff hole. Katherine Perry of Cary, NC, the 2010 NC Junior champion and a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill, finished alone in third place one shot back at 152.
In the men’s division, first round leader Jackson Taylor of Wilmington, NC finished day two tied with Jack Fields of Southern Pines, NC at four under par 140. Taylor, a sophomore at Davidson College, defeated Fields on the second playoff hole to secure his first CGA title. “I did not get off to a good start, but I played well on the back side and made a 20 footer on the last hole to get into the playoff” commented Taylor. Finishing alone in third place was Robert Hoadley of Southern Pines, NC, a sophomore at UNC-Greensboro, who ended with a two day total of one under par 143.
The Carolinas Young Amateur is open to amateur golfers between the ages of 18 and 24 who have finished high school and conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
