DELAND, FL (Jan.4, 2010) -- Michael Goldschmidt captured the Winter Series event run by the Florida State Golf Association at Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand, on January 3–4. He was joined in the winner’s circle by John Hall and Edward Craig, who won the Senior and Super Senior divisions respectively.

Michael Goldschmidt, of Lakeland, came from a five-stroke deficit in the Regular Division to win in a sudden death play-off. After carding a four-over par 76 in the first round, Goldschmidt fired an even par round of 72 in the final round to force a play-off with Edward Galbavy, of Orange Park who posted rounds of 71-77 for a tournament total of 148. Goldschmidt secured the victory on the first play-off hole. This is Michael’s second consecutive victory on the Winter Series. Dwight Lewis, of Ormond Beach, finished alone in third place with a tournament total of 151.

John Hall, of Sarasota, trailed the first round leader by four strokes after firing a two-over par 74 in the first round of the Senior Division. Hall played another solid round of golf in the final round with a one-over par 73 to capture the title by one stroke. Mark Gerard, of DeLand, finished in second place after rounds of 70-78 for a tournament total of four-over par 148. Stephen Maddox, of Lakeland, and Doug Savage, of Mount Vernon, OH, finished tied for third place with a tournament total of 150.

Edward Craig, of Orlando, went wire-to-wire to capture the Super Senior Division by three strokes. Craig, the 2010 Super Senior Match Play Champion, fired a one-over par 73 in the first round, and continued his solid play in the final round with a one-under par 71 to secure the victory. Craig also had the shot of the tournament with a hole-in-one on the par 3 11th hole. Jim Carley, of Ormond Beach, finished alone in second place after rounds of 75-72 for a tournament total of 147. Bob Coleman, of The Villages, finished in third place with a tournament total of 148.

The Winter Series events include eight competitions, seven individual events and one four-ball event. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
