Finland Wins 39th Tailhade Cup in Argentina
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA (Nov. 14, 2010) --With a total of 565 (140 for the day), the team from Finland captured the 39th Tailhade Cup by eleven shots over second place Norway. England finished third with 577 and the Argentine team finished in fourth place with 581.
Tapio Pulkkanen signed for an impressive 69 to lead the team. Pulkkanen’s partner Miro Veijalainen fired a smooth 71 to ensure a smooth victory.
"We are very happy, as it is our first win here. The joy would have been complete if he were to play the playoff for the individual title. But I missed some birdie chances and stayed outside, "said Miro Veijalainen. For its part, Tapio Pulkkanen added that "today I did 69 and had some hope of winning the individual classification as well, but we are very happy for this win and dedicate it to our coach.”
Argentina, the host country, failed to improve from third place where they had started the day. Cocha Thomas finished with 72 , while Jorge Fernandez Valdes shot 76.
"Definitely not the start I needed and then everything was uphill," said Fernandez Valdes while Cocha admitted: "It was not the end of the year we expected. We had high expectations for the World Cup and the Tailhade but did not play well. We’ll have to keep working because we are still very young and have long careers ahead. "
In the individual competition, the Englishman Andrew Sullivan defeated Norwegian Espen Kofstad on the third playoff hole to take the title.
