NCGA Seniors Take Staedler-Jetter Cup Matches
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct 26, 2010) -– The NCGA seniors snatched a close victory over the NCPGA professionals after the final round of the Staedler-Jetter Senior Cup at Poppy Hills GC. The senior amateurs won 15 ½ and 12 ½ overall, also breaking last year’s tie.

The NCGA recorded the first match win for the day with Jay Guerin’s 7 and 6 win over Eddie Duino. The professionals quickly fired back with two match wins in a row: Mitch Thomas over Jim Knoll (3 and 2) and Dave Delong finished one-up on Mark Miller. Amateur Carl Selkirk defeated Al Krueger, 4 and 3, to win all of his matches for the tournament.

John Enright and Ric Burgess tied their match; Glen Stubblefield beat amateur Herb Jensen 4 and 2 to win all three of his matches; Ronnie Wiley won a close match against Gary Plato finishing 2 and 1; and Bob Olds and Raul Quezada also tied their match.

In other matches, Doug Johnson beat Olympic Club member John Abendroth 5 and 4; Ric Dudley fell 3 and 4 to Peter Moren; professional Mike Beveridge beat Rob Adolph 2 and 1; Charlie Gibson defeated amateur Dan Bieber 2 and 1; Jeff Burda grabbed a 2 and 1 victory over NCPGA Senior Player of the Year Michael Cook; and Rob Thompson and Michael Paul completed their match all tied.

Jeff Burda, Jim Knoll, Dan Bieber, Rob Thompson John Enright, Herb Jensen, Bob Olds, Carl Selkirk, Jay Guerin, Ronnie Wiley, Rob Adolph, Doug Johnson, Mark Miller and Peter Moren comprise the NCGA Staedler-Jetter team. The NCPGA’s team consists of Michael Cook, Michael Paul, Mike Beveridge, Dave Delong, Ric Burgess, Glen Stubblefield, Eddie Duino, Gary Plato, Al Krueger, Raul Quezada, John Abendroth, Ric Dudley, Charlie Gibson and Mitch Thomas.

ABOUT THE Staedler-Jetter Senior Cup Matches

The Staedler-Jetter Cup features 14 amateur players ages 55-over (10 Seniors and four Super Seniors) representing the NCGA (top players from the previous season’s points list) taking on 14 professional players ages 55-over representing the Northern California PGA in a Ryder Cup-like format.

The first day of play consists of two rounds—one round of four-ball match play (better ball) and one round of foursome match play (alternate shot). The second day of play’s final rounds consist of singles match play.
