Highlander Rallies to Win Senior Championship

Ken Highlander (Sunset Hills CC) turned in the only subpar round of the Championship today with a 1-under 71 at St. Clair Country Club to capture the Senior Amateur Championship, his first Metropolitan Championship. Highlander found himself one shot back of 2009 champion Scott Edwards (Persimmon Woods CC) following round 1.

Edwards had a second round 75 to finished 3-shots back of Highlander at 147. However, with his runner-up finish in the Senior Championship, Edwards secures his second consecutive MAGA Senior Player of the Year award.

Rounding out the top 5 were Robert Trittler (Persimmon Woods GC) alone in 3rd at 150. Finishing 3-shots back at 153 were Bob Klassen (Aberdeen GC), Dirk Teagarden (Persimmon Woods GC) and Andy Frost (Bellerive CC).

ABOUT THE MAGA Senior Amateur

36-hole senior championship of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association (MAGA), with an overall championship (the George F. Meyer Championship) and the following age divisions: 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70- 74, and 75+. Entries are open to amateur golfers who are affiliated with or are a member of a club which is a Member Club of the MAGA.
