Bob Jones Invitational: Rain Doesn't Dampen Spirits
HIGHLANDS, NC (August 8, 2005) -- Due to severe weather conditions, the first
day of the two-day Bob Jones Invitational Golf Tournament was cancelled. Former
Walker Cup players from the United States and The British Isles reunitied, however,
to play on Monday in rainy conditions in a pro-am format.
The Walker Cup winner was Joe Inman, who fired a 65 on the par 70 Higlands CC
layout. Inman has participated in the tournament over 25 years. Previously,
he won the title in 1993 with a tournament record of 63, and again in 1996 with
a 67.
The tournament raises money for the Highlands Cashiers Hospital, this year exceeding
the $23 Million mark.
