Amateurs Beat Pros, Again!
ELEPHANT BUTTE, NM. (Aug. 15, 2010) -- Due to a two hour rain delay at Sierra del Rio Golf Course, the morning and afternoon matches were condensed into 9 holes for the team matches and 9 holes for the individual. With on and off again rain in the morning, the amateurs were able to keep it together winning 6 matches and halving 2 totaling 7 points for the amateurs and 3 points for the professionals.
As matches began to end for the afternoon round, it started to look like the tables were going to turn when the professionals won the first six out of seven matches. As the rain clouds began to clear and the sun came out, the amateurs were able to hold the lead and tied the afternoon match with ten points on each side. With the morning victory for the amateurs, they were able to hold on to the Challenge Cup for the second year in a row after a stunning performance last year at Tanoan Country Club.
