European Am: Bjerregaard fires course record to take lead
Vanajanlinna, Finland (August 6, 2010) -- Lucas Bjerregaard of Denmark parred his first two holes on Friday, then took a bogey on the par-3 third. After that, it was lights out.
Bjerregaard made three birdies on the front nine, then posted six more on the back for a blistering 30 that included a run of three straight on No's 14-16 and one to cap off the day at the 18th which gave him a round of 64 and the new course record at Linna Golf.
Celebrating his 19th birthday next week Dane Lucas Bjerregaard got his birthday presents early when he shot a new course record 64, 8-under par. He bettered the old record by one stroke. "I've been on a good roll for two weeks now", told Bjerregaard whose game shined especially on final holes. Starting the final round as a leader the Dane said that he was amazed about his performance today. "Tomorrow I just have to enjoy my golf game. I've heard that they are expecting a big crowd for final day, which makes the day even more interesting."
Bjerregaard, at 13-under, holds a two stroke lead over Tommy Fleetwood of England and Jeff Karlsson of Sweden with one round to play.
World No. 2 Tommy Fleetwood In Position:
Tommy Fleetwood of England shares the second place after three rounds and was happy with his game today. A round of 69 left him at the total of -11, two shots behind the leader. “I’ve been playing quite nicely for a while now. Today’s pin positions were quite challenging, so I just decided to try and keep my patience. And that’s what I did.
Fleetwood has one special wish for the final round. “It would be great if the rest of the guys didn’t play as well as I do”, he joked. “Winning this competition would mean a lot to me as this is one of my last as an amateur.”
