Pennsylvania (PGA) Senior Amateur Championship
46th Senior Amateur Champion
46th Senior Amateur Champion

BUTLER, PA (August 3, 2005) -- Although he had never seen the golf course prior to the championship King Knox, captured the 46th Pennsylvania Senior Amateur Championship at Butler CC by two shots. Knox, a member of Lancaster CC, relied on past experience and solid ball striking to lead himself to victory.

Knox hit sixteen greens in the final round, missing one green by only a foot and the other by just a few more. "I putted superbly yesterday, which allowed me to stay in the hunt. Today I hit the ball good and putted solid," Knox stated.

The key to Knox’s victorious round was a birdie on sixteen from the right trees. "I drove the ball in the pine trees and could only pitch out towards the fairway. From there I hit a high cut four-iron to about five feet." The hole proved pivotal as he made up three shots on then leader Dan Burton of Bent Creek CC.

Although the victory has had little time to sink in for Knox, it is his first Senior Amateur victory and best finish in a state championship. "It is a real honor," Knox said. "As a member of the Pennsylvania Executive Committee it makes me feel real good. I joined to the committee to give back to the game and now it seems like I am just taking more. It is truly an honor."

Knox finished two shots ahead of Ron Pieczynski of Sand Springs GC.
