WEST TRENTON, NJ (August 3, 2005) -- Robert Whartenby and Michael Minter of the host Trenton Country Club today became the 73rd Champions of the New Jersey State Golf Association Four Ball Championship, as they defeated Ervin Allaghi and Michael O’Connell of North Jersey Country Club, 6 & 5. Their Championship effort was highlighted by Championship round birdies on holes 1, 9, and 13 to close the match.

The Champions advanced to this afternoon’s deciding match by virtue of their semi-final victory over fellow club-mates Mike Reap and Mike Moonan, 2 & 1 early this morning. Allaghi and O’Connell overtook Richard Lippert and Richard Slagle of Howell Park, 2-up, in this morning’s other semi-final match.

Whartenby and Minter, defending their home course of Trenton (par 71, 6350 yards), will hold the Ridgewood Country Club Championship Trophy for the ensuing year. Should they elect to defend their title next summer, they will be exempt from qualifying and will be placed into the Championship field.

The victorious duo continued their recent trend of outstanding play; Minter defeated Whartenby, 1-up, in the 36 hole Trenton Club Championship on Sunday, before the two joined forces to win the NJSGA’s premier team event. Looking ahead, the 74th NJSGA Four Ball Championship will be held in mid-August of 2006.
