Castlegar, BC (July 23, 2010) – Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C. put together four solid rounds of 67-71-68-70 and claimed the 2010 BC Amateur title at the Castlegar Golf Club in Castlegar, B.C.
Svensson carded an eagle on the par-5 16th hole and never looked back as he played to a five shot victory with 8-under 276.
“I was hitting the ball great and I putted great,” says Svensson. “I was plus one on the front, so pressure was on for the back. I was one up on 15. Justin doubled and I eagled 16. That took the pressure off to par it in.”
Justin Shin of Pitt Meadows, B.C. finished in a three-way tie for second place with Darren Wallace and Adam Cornelson, both from Langley, B.C.
A playoff saw Wallace nab the final spot on the Willingdon Cup team to join Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C. Eugene Wong of North Vancouver, B.C. and Svensson at the Canadian Amateur Championship at London Hunt/Redtail Golf Course in London, Ontario August 10 – 15.
Cory Renfrew of Victoria, B.C. and Riley Wheeldon of Courtenay, B.C. tied for fifth at two-under par 282.
