MONTEREY, Calif. (July 4, 2010) -- Score another victory for the lefthanders.
Dino Giacomazzi, firing a 64 in the final round at the classic Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, has won the 2010 Monterey City Championship. Giacomazzi, of Seaside, started the day 4 strokes behind Mat Miller and 2 behind Taylor Travis, who has been playing very well of late, making the quarterfinals and almost taking down 2005 US Mid Am Champ Kevin Marsh.
When Miller failed to break par in the final round (74) it was up to someone else in the field to make a move, which is exactly what Giacomazzi did - firing an 8-under 64 that left the rest of the field in his rear view mirror. He was 11-under for the 54 hole tournament.
Giacomazzi won by 5 shots, while Ricky Stockton (final round 69) and Travis (final round 71) tied for second.
Defending champion Randy Haag, trying to chase down another NCGA player-of-the-year title, finished tied for ninth at 1-under par.
