Palmer Cup Tees off Thurday at N. Ireland's Royal Portrush
PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland – First round four-ball pairings for the 2010 Palmer Cup at Royal Portrush Golf Club have been announced following today’s opening ceremony. The first match of the Ryder Cup-style competition between collegiate golfers will tee off at 7:30.
The opening match will pit Henrik Norlander and Pontus Widegren, both of Danderyd, Sweden, against Scott Langley and Corey Nagy. They will be followed by Rhys Enoch of Wales and Italy’s Andrea Pavan versus John Chin and Daniel Miernicki. The third bout will pair Sweden’s David Lingmerth and Patrick Spraggs of England. They will face the American duo of David Chung and Jonathan Randolph. The final group of the morning will consist of Arizona State teammates James Byrne of Scotland and Jesper Kennegard of Sweden against the USA’s Tyson Alexander and Russell Henley.
Amateurgolf.com Note: The venue is the home of U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell. We're not sure if that bodes better for the European or USA squad, but other than being tired, we expect that U.S. Open low ams Russell Henley and Scott Langley will be tough to beat after a difficult week at Pebble Beach.
Afternoon foursomes matches will begin at 14:00 with "to be determined" pairings.
