San Francisco, CA (August 1, 2005) -- amateurgolf.com is pleased to announce that
it is hosting, for the second straight year, and open qualifying event for the
Stocker Cup Invitational Mid Amateur, a Golfweek national points event. This year's
qualifier is September 19th at Harding Park. last event to be held there prior
to the Amex World Golf Championship, which will see Tiger et al (we'll miss Ernie
however!) battling again on this classic layout that once held the "Lucky
Invitational" on the PGA Tour of old, and a Senior Tour event in the 80's.
Last year, 5 qualifiers and 1 alternate made it into the Stocker Cup at the
prestigious Preserve Golf Club. Dave Rathjen finished in the
top 10 and got a 2005 exemption (one less guy to beat!) and Gary Young,
who qualified by winning the amateurgolf.com California Mid Amateur last April,
also finished top 10 and is exempt this year.
We will again have a combination skins game/practice round on Sunday afternoon
for those interested, and will soon have a firm price on that fun and competitive
warmup (in the $100 range). The qualifier itself is $115 to enter.
Harding Park will use the same tee time increments, and pin positions, as the
first two rounds of the Amex and we're sure to be challenged.
