Moren/Johnson Win NCGA Senior Four Ball
PEBBLE BEACH, CA (June 11, 2010)--Ron Johnson and Peter Moren captured the NCGA Senior Four-Ball Championship in a wire-to-wire victory over three rounds at Poppy Hills, the first NCGA title for both competitors.

A dominating 18 birdies total versus three bogeys produced the three-shot win in the pair’s third time playing in a better-ball format. Their first two outings earlier in 2010 failed to generate much success, but the duo got hot this week. “We saved it all for here,” commented Diablo’s Johnson. The two met for the first time in the fall of last year and decided on the four-ball partnership then.

“My partner’s putter caught fire on the back nine,” Moren, of Blackhawk CC, said. Moren made his own contribution via an 80-foot bomb for birdie on the 16th that put an exclamation point on the win.

Two teams with plenty of NCGA pedigree chased but ultimately settled for second and third place. Jeff Burda and Jim Knoll had two hot scorecards (66 & 65) sandwiching a one-over 73 second round, which was played in high winds that raked the Monterey Peninsula Thursday afternoon. Indeed, the tournament was decided on how each team handled the winds that day. Burda and Knoll were one of the pre-tournament favorites by virtue of Burda’s win at the NCGA Senior in April.

Third place went to defending champions Rob Adolph and Doug Johnson who had started the final round as co-leaders with the champions, but were unable to match their stellar 66.

The shot of the tournament came from Ben Whipple of Serrano, who aced the 15th hole in the final round with a 4-iron.
