GONZALES, LA (April 25, 2010)--Starting the day two shots clear of the field, the Oaks at Sherwood from Baton Rouge fired a four-over par score of 292 on Sunday to capture the 2010 Louisiana Golf Association Club Team Championship at the Links course at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzales. With a two day total of ten-under par 422, they finished 12 shots ahead of the defending champion team from OakWing Golf Club of Alexandria.

Blaine Patin led the Oaks at Sherwood team with a three-under par 69, Scott Wilfong had a one-over 73, Danny Nelson fired a two-over 74, and Garrett Westbrook and Brett Baker had 76s. Donny Schmitt rounded out the Oaks at Sherwood team with a 78 on Sunday. OakWing was led by Craig Campo’s one-under 71, Trey Coker’s 74, Frank Brame’s 75, and Dusty Green’s 78. Keith Breazeale and Jason Lewis completed the OakWing team.

Patin’s 69 was the day’s best score with other under par scores recorded on Sunday by Hebert’s Todd Weber (70), Ellendale’s Kevin Morvant (71), OakWing’s Campo (71), and Black Bear’s Dale Cagnolatti (71).

The Championship drew 21 teams from across the state. Clubs participating in the event are represented by six-man teams. Saturday’s play consisted of four-ball stroke play with each team counting the two best of their three four-ball scores. Sunday’s play consisted of individual stroke play with a team’s score being determined by the best four of six individual scores.

As indicated, the 2010 LGA Club Team Championship was conducted at the Links course at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzales, a venue that also hosted this Championship in 1999 and 2000. Playing to a par of 72 at just over 6,600 yards, blustery winds created challenging conditions for the players. Despite the winds, the course drew rave reviews from this strong LGA field. Lakewood Golf Club in New Orleans, recently re-designed by Ron Garl, will host this event in 2011, with Koasati Pines in Kinder, site of this year’s LGA Amateur Championship, serving as host venue in 2012.
