Merced County Amateur: McKean Rallies to Victory
MERCED, CALIFORNIA (July 24, 2005) -- George McKean of Kingsburg fired a back
nine 33 on Sunday to close the tournament at 3-under par and edge Chad Moscovic
by one stroke at the Merced Country Amateur at Merced Country Club.
The Senior Flight had the entire field vying for three-time defending champion
Rob Thompson's title and a foursome of golfers had to battle into sudden death
to determine the victor. (Thompson couldn't play because he qualified for the
U.S. Senior Open, which he is now preparing to play)
Atwater's Don Mancebo, Jim Ono, Bob Ackerman and Sacramento's Dave Penso all
finished at 5-over 147 in the senior division. Penso won with a par on the second
playoff hole.
