Ford Wins 3rd Straight Yeamans Hall Title
N. CHARLESTON, SC (October 29, 2009)--Frank Ford III of Charleston posted a final-round 72 Wednesday and won his third consecutive Yeamans Hall Senior Amateur title, finishing the 54-hole tournament with a score of 212.
Ford finished three shots ahead of Bill Smunk of Kingstree and Greg Scurlock of Augusta in the event featuring a national field of players 55 and older. Scurlock had a final-round 73; Smunk shot 75.
Logan Jackson of Winston-Salem, N.C., and David Strawn of Charlotte tied for fourth at 216, while current U.S. Senior Amateur champion Vinny Giles of Richmond, Va., James Graham of Rye, N.Y., and Fred Silver of Lewiston, N.Y., tied for sixth at 217.
Walt Martin of Oakton, Va., won the Super Senior division for players 65 and older, shooting a final-round 73 for a 213 total. Martin edged Tommy Ford of Mount Pleasant by a shot. O. Gordon Brewer, a two-time U.S. Senior Amateur winner, was third at 216.
