Texas Shoot Out: North Retains Trophy
Richmond, TX (October 25, 2009)--The 2009 Texas Shoot Out concluded today with the singles matches and in the end, the North Texas team retained the trophy along with bragging rights for another year. After yesterday’s foursome and four ball matches, the South Team found them selves staring at a five point deficit needing a big day in the singles matches to take the trophy and break the 3-3 head-to head tie.

Yesterday morning kicked off the competition the foursomes where team members play in an alternate shot format. Teams faired pretty even as the North jumped to an early one point lead, leading the South 8-7. Captains A.J. Triggs (North) and Charlie Milstead (South), with an opportunity to shake up their lineups decided that the players they had teamed up for the morning matches were the right ingredients to be able to get some separation at the conclusion of the afternoon four ball matches. This strategy worked well for Captain Triggs and the North Team as they were able to conclude the first day with a 9 ½-5 ½ victory in the four ball matches to give them a five point lead going into the very competitive singles matches on Sunday.

The South Team remained confident as thirty points remained on the board. Unfortunately, the ten players from the north would have nothing of it as they stomped the south team in the singles matches 21-9, giving them an impressive 38 ½-21 ½ victory. It was feast or famine for the players today as seven of the ten matches were shutouts (mostly by the north). In a format which allotted players one point for a victory on the front nine, one point for a victory on the back nine, and one point for an overall victory, the south team was only able to muster up nine points out of a possible thirty that were available today.

This victory gave the north team their second victory in as many years, but more importantly, gave them a 4-3 lead in the competition’s young seven year history.
